Quarantine cooking – Indian daily meal ideas – 2

Quarantine cooking – Indian daily meal ideas – I can’t believe that three of us staying at home at a stretch 24 hours into 21 days!

Seriously!

Summer was gone before we feel or enjoyed it. Since mid of 2019 till January 2020, Australia had one of the massive bushfires. By the time people in Australia were trying to overcome the damage of bushfire, this Pandemic of COVID-19 happened!

March, the whole month we were at home, didn’t realise the first month of Autumn has gone and April has arrived. The trees started changing its colour. These days mornings are cold, leaving the bed and making the first cup of tea is becoming a bit challenging job for me! Slowly we are entering into winter!

No! It wasn’t easy for us to stay at home all the time, it’s not easy for anyone, but we are thankful that till now we are safe, we have the roof over our head, food on our plates and most importantly we are staying together under one roof. We don’t know how long we have to maintain this self-isolation, social distance, how long we have to stay at home! But, all I know is if staying at home can help to fight with this current pandemic situation, we should stay at home as long as we can!

The day I cooked this meal, it was a comparatively cold day here in Melbourne. I woke up a bit late, served a typical Bengali breakfast Dudh -Muri( Milk and cereals) to Mithi. Muri or rice crisp in many parts of India called it Murmura.

Breakfast – I made a quick savoury breakfast for both of us, UP style Chura Matar or Chooda Matar and ginger tea! If you get bored of eating regular Poha or Chirer Polao and wanted to try a new Poha recipe, then I would highly recommend you to make this UP style Chura Matar for Breakfast or snack.

Chura Matar

Chura Matar or Chooda Matar or Matar Poha recipe is very popular winter delicacy in Banaras. I tried this breakfast recipe in my quarantine cooking.

While I was making my breakfast, I soaked some Whole Masoor Dal.

For lunch and dinner, I wanted to make North Indian style Whole Masoor Dal. I love this recipe because this recipe ticks all the points that I consider for my everyday cooking.

  1. This recipe doesn’t call for many ingredients from my pantry.

  2. No long prep time required for this recipe. I soaked the lentils in the morning in warm water for 3-4 hours.

  3. Doesn’t need much prep-work for this recipe. I had to chop an onion, ginger and garlic.

  4. The best part, I don’t need to stand in front of the stove all the time. Which means less active cooking time.

I also made Bodi Chura, a famous side dish from Orissa. During summer months this Bodi Chura is usually served with Pakhal or fermented rice.

Odia Bodi Chura

Odia Badi Chura is a famous side dish from Orissa. During summer months Badi Choora usually served with Pakhal or fermented rice.

But as I said the weather is getting colder here and these days my goal is to cook meals from my Pantry. So decided to pair Whole Masoor Dal and Bodi Chura with steamed Rice for lunch.

I served the same dal for dinner with handmade Roti. You can enjoy this dal with Paratha as well.
